$88.00

Producer | Sàgona

Region | Tuscany

Variety | Sangiovese

Alcohol | 14%

The grapes come from the "mountain" vineyard located in a narrow valley facing south, at an altitude of 550m. Planted in the early 70s, these are the vines of Piero and Santi, the old farmers who preceded the Sàgona farm as today. Fermented in stainless steel, maceration on the skins for about 20 days. 18 months in used barriques and 12 months in the bottle. Black cherry, ripe fruit, spice, and a touch of leather and tobacco. Juicy and generous on the palate, it balances richness with freshness, carried by fine tannins and a youthful but defined structure.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Sàgona is located in Pratomagno, in the province of Arezzo. This small mountain farm is in hilly, wild territory, 500 meters above sea level. Far from tourist sites and surrounded by dry stone walls, the farm sits in a narrow valley. It is part of a diverse ecosystem of vineyards, olive trees, fruit orchards, and potato and legume crops. The vineyard is managed by Daniele Corrotti with the help of his family and friends.

The vineyards is made up of very small plots totalling four hectares and is farmed according to organic principles. The wines are made from only native varieties: Sangiovese for the most part, but also Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Bianca and Trebbiano. Sàgona’s wines speak of the mountains, combining unmistakable, elegant Tuscan, flavours, with the rustic, peasant character of the area.
