Braccia Rese

Busca (CN) - PIEDMONT

Braccia Rese is based in Busca, at the foot of the Cuneo mountains inside the Colline Saluzzesi overlooking Langhe. Founded in 2020 by Elia Lamberti, Livio and Niccolò Craveri and Giovanni Cismondi: having all grown up playing music together they all came together years later to revive a farm and vineyards from where they grew up.

Started by Giovanni in 2016 by requesting to take over and maintain the vineyards his grandparents have been renting out for many years; the couple of hectares of vines, with some 70 years old vines, came also the old vacation farmhouse, where the team from Braccia Rese transformed into their winery.

When Livio finished his studies in viticulture and oenology in 2016 at a university in Torino, he took off for Australia to work at a winery, then returned to Piemonte to take a job with a winemaker in the Langhe. In 2019, Giovanni heard Livio was back in the area and invited him to come meet his family's vineyards and proposed making wine together with the grapes. In the meantime Elia, who had been working in Torino as a graphic designer, grew exhausted by the chaos of the life in the city and relocated to a village in the alps not far from Busca and became the third partner.

Braccia Rese, which translate to ”raised arms;" or arms given back, returning to agriculture. Starting with just some experience in home cider-making, and little experience in winemaking and viticulture, his first operations in the company was around the label and communication, but after working next to Livio in the cellar and on the farm over these past years expanded is skills into vinification and vineyard management.

The territory is characterised by the richness of the terroir and the mild climate. Unlike the nearby Langhe, the hilly area of Monviso enjoys a microclimate with by mild summers, with some sporadic hailstorms and summer storms and rain during the cold months. Vines are protected by a dense forest and very well exposed, located on sandy soil with the presence of clay; grown on organic principles, without the use of chemicals and using only copper and sulfur. The viticultural vocation of these mountains is expressed in various native vines, which Braccia Rese works with particular attention like Chatus, Neretta Cuneese, Baratuciat and Quagliano.

Same approach is taken in the cellar, where a very low dose of sulfur guarantees the first vintages put on the market. Most of the wines are made in fibreglass containers, fermented with indigenous yeast and all refinements take place in the cellar which is in the centre of the vineyards.
