2024 Monastero Suore Vitorchiano - Ruscum

$57.00

Producer | Monastero Suore Vitorchiano

Region | Lazio

Variety | Trebbiano, Malvasia, Verdicchio

Alcohol | 11.5%

Ruscum uses the same grapes and harvest as Coenobium, but spends around two weeks on skins, giving the wine its amber hue, gentle tannic grip and deeper texture. Aromatically it moves into dried herbs, apricot skin, grapefruit rind, hay and spice, while remaining remarkably light on its feet.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Monastero Suore Cistercensi di Vitorchiano is a Trappist monastery near Rome, home to around eighty sisters who live according to the Benedictine principle of ora et labora — pray and work. With the guidance of Giampiero Bea, the sisters produce a small range of wines from organically farmed vineyards on volcanic soils. Made with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, the wines are pure expressions of place, community and tradition.
