Benedic is the monastery’s rare red wine, produced in tiny quantities from local grapes grown on the volcanic soils around Vitorchiano. Made with spontaneous fermentations, indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, the wine is light, savoury and energetic, with earthy red fruit, gentle grip and the same saline freshness that defines the other wines.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Monastero Suore Cistercensi di Vitorchiano is a Trappist monastery near Rome, home to around eighty sisters who live according to the Benedictine principle of ora et labora — pray and work. With the guidance of Giampiero Bea, the sisters produce a small range of wines from organically farmed vineyards on volcanic soils. Made with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, the wines are pure expressions of place, community and tradition.
