2024 Cantine Matrone - Spasso

$41.00

Producer | Cantine Matrone

Region | Campania

Variety | Cancello, Cascaveglia, Fosso, Aglianicone

Alcohol | 10.5%

A vibrant Vesuvian red made from a field blend of rare local varieties grown on the sandy, volcanic soils of Mount Vesuvius. Spontaneous fermentation and a gentle touch in the cellar keep the wine bright, juicy and true to its origins.

Fresh red berries, cherry and pomegranate lead the nose, backed by a subtle herbal edge and the distinctive mineral lift of volcanic soils. Light, crunchy and wonderfully drinkable, with lively acidity, soft tannins and a faint bitter-savoury note that adds complexity.

Serve chilled. Perfect with grilled vegetables, tomato-based pasta, charcuterie and Mediterranean plates — the ultimate glou-glou Vesuvian red.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Cantine Matrone is located in Boscotrecase, in the heart of the Vesuvius National Park, facing the Gulf of Naples. It is led by Andrea Matrone, who after gaining experience making wine in Australia, New Zealand, California, Sicily and Cilento, returned to his origins on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, to produce wines with great respect for territoriality and nature.

The bulk of production is focused on two wines: Lacryma Christi Rosso and Lacryma Christi Bianco. It is a type of wine common to the area and produced since Roman times. Andrea produces wines which are aromatic, precise and complex, while retaining the unique terroir-driven character and flavours typical of this wine.
